A Cautionary Tale of Getting Out of Balance

I recently had dinner with the CEO and owner of a successful online business, a lady who had originally started the business as a single mom in the early 2000s. Over the years, she had created a lot of success.

Quickly, she had grown her business from startup to scale-up, achieving over $1,000,000 in annual revenue for a few years. While she was in the scale-up phase, she was even able to create a Software as a Service solution add-on to her business.

Things were looking good, until suddenly things took a turn for the worse.

She had made an all too common error growing businesses make, and it set her downward on the spiral from which she is only just starting to recover.

And even worse, while it’s taken her a few years to recover— it’s affected her health (increased stress), it’s affected her finances (because of this mistake, she had to take on a business loan that burdens the business), and she is farther from achieving her goals (she feels like she’s on a hamster wheel, never making progress).

What mistake did she make? What caused her to go from startup, to $250,000 in revenue, up to $1,000,000, and then back down?

A deceptively simple, and yet an all too common mistake: She didn’t watch the fundamentals of her business close enough. She strayed too far from her mission, and didn’t watch her numbers.

By doing so, her business was out of balance, and it negatively affected everything that she touched.

As her operational problems started to get out of hand, it spread like a cancer through the rest of her business. Her additional profit margins shrunk, and she didn’t have any extra capital to invest in her marketing and growth.

A short-term quarter of problems turned into years and years of recovery time and lost revenue forever.

In this moment, when the noise, fear, and distraction is on major overload…you are invited to step away from it all.

No matter where you find your business, use this as a friendly warning. Or an unfriendly warning. A wake-up call. A moment of clarity.

Whatever you do, however, don’t get frozen like a deer in the headlights.

If you’re looking to create success like my clients are currently, where we have multiple clients growing revenue 33% or more year over year, while their competition is getting crushed, then I’d invite you to reach out for a discovery session.

For those companies who have a $10k+ average order value and a sales team who is hungry to grow, we have been helping our clients take an aggressive stance since March, as they buy up market share while it’s on sale, and set them up as leaders of the next recovery.

If you aren’t setting records right now in your growth, and you have the pieces in place, we should talk.

Perhaps you’ll be our next success story. Click Here Now to Setup a Discovery Session.

There is a plan unfolding and a way to keep things moving forward. It might get difficult, ugly, it might require major pivots, and it might be very uncomfortable. Yet, there is a way. As we go forward, please remember: There is no such thing as “massive action”…just one step, one breath, and one moment at a time.
