Discovering Your Perfect, Profitable, Prospect

Ten thousand years ago, after a long day hunting down a large wooly mammoth, our ancestors could be found sitting around the campfire, doing what human beings do every single day until this very moment.
They didn’t have smartphones. They didn’t have movies. They didn’t have books. Yet, they had a habit we still have to this day.
This habit is fundamentally wired into the way that we human beings perceive the world around us. It’s fundamentally part of how we derive meaning and understanding.
They told each other stories.
Some were exaggerated, some were realistic, some were funny, and some were tragic.
At this basic level, nothing in how we communicate has changed.
We are still fundamentally wired in the way these humans of ten thousand years ago were wired. To be tribal, and to listen and tell stories.
Each of us has a conversation already happening in our heads today.
Imagine you walked into your office this morning and peeked over the shoulder of an employee.
Facebook is on their screen, again. You start wondering… have they been at this for an hour? Is this the reason they haven’t been handing in their work on time?
You head back to your office and the first ad you see on your computer says, “Are Your Employees Playing on Facebook All Day? Find Out with Our New Screen Monitoring Software.”
That ad might get your attention. That ad might make you do something. That ad might stick with you all day out of all the other ads and messages you are exposed to that day.
Notice how, the mention of Facebook in the ad got your attention, because you were just thinking about it. And then you became aware of a problem. You were not only aware of the issue, you became aware of a potential solution, and you were guided on what to do next…
Compare that to a general insurance ad full of stock photos, with no compelling messaging. It’s forgettable and irrelevant to the conversation you’re having in your head that day, and so it may as well be invisible.
The trick to make marketing succeed is that it matches the conversation happening in your perfect prospect’s head.
